History

- Jivaka Kumar
The Traditional Thai Massage, called NUAD, has very antique roots in the history of healing treatments.
Its origin lays way back in India, about 2500 years ago. King Bimbisara’s personal physician, Jivaka Kumar, a contemporary Buddha, is still today revered in Thailand as the „Father of Medicine“.
The Indian Massage practice reached Thailand over 500 years ago and was furtherly developped by healers and monks at the King’s court. There was also a Chinese influence on the Thai Massage.
In 1832, in the Wat Po Monastery in Bangkok, King Rama III let the secular texts be carved into stone and that is where the well known school for Traditional Thai Massage can still be found today.
